Music production is done by Frank Wiedeman (from Âme).
The film comprises “5 Acts”, as in the original “Berlin: Symphony of a Great City”. Each act has a song that covers the whole act.
Frank Wiedeman worked with different musicians based in Berlin for each track. The list is diverse in terms of generations. Roedelius and Gut have been essential people in the electronic music industry since the 1970s and 1980s. Modeselektor is a popular contemporary duo, while Alex.Do is a young DJ in Berlin.
- Act I: Hans-Joachim Roedelius
- Act 2: Samon Kawamura
- Act 3: Gudrun Gut, Thomas Fehlmann
- Act 4: Modeselektor
- Act 5: Alex.Do
Locations
The film displays several locations related to electronic music, especially during Act 5, which focuses on nightlife. It starts with a vast electronic music live performance and then shows several clubs.
The “thanks” section at the end features many clubs, but it’s not 100% clear that all these locations made it to the final cut.
General
The film displays the music scene as a major element of Berlin, specifically electronic music and club culture. Comparing the 5th act of the original Berlin documentary with this one might be interesting.
Producers’ note from the official website: “Symphony of Now has provided us the opportunity to freeze time and capture a fraction of a moment within our culturally rich home town Berlin. We’ve seen the city take on major transformations over the past 10 years and so our vision for Symphony of Now was to preserve our delicate memories of Berlin before they disappear.”
